Description
I took this photo of the Chattahoochee River from the Cochran Shoals Trail, just north of Atlanta, as the sun was setting on a cloudy evening. Cochran Shoals is one of the most popular parks in metro Atlanta’s Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Located just north of Atlanta’s I-285 perimeter.
Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, located in Georgia, is part of the National Park Service, within the Department of the Interior. The park is made up of a 48-mile stretch of the river and over 6,000 acres of land area. The park starts below Buford Dam at Lake Sidney Lanier and winds through the suburbs north of Atlanta ending where Peachtree Creek enters the river in northwest Atlanta. The park was established on August 15, 1978 when President Jimmy Carter signed the act creating the park. Each year, over 300,000 visitors come to enjoy the iconic experiences that can be had on and along the Chattahoochee River. https://www.nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/park-brochure.htm
