Description
This photo was taken as the sun was setting in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park on the bank of Lake Clara Meer near the aptly named Skyline Picture Point. The scene features the Midtown Atlanta skyline, viewed through the park’s vibrant October fall foliage. The building’s colorful lighting and growing shadows combine to give the skyline a magical appearance.
The park was originally designed by Joseph Forsyth Johnson to host the Piedmont Exposition in October 1887, and later hosted the Cotton States and International Exposition of 1895. The Piedmont Exposition was regional. Its purpose was to promote the industrial and agricultural might of the region. The Cotton States and International Exposition was a World’s Fair. This expo had a grander purpose than its predecessor – to promote all the Southern cotton states and encourage good relations and trade with the international community. The Cotton States and International Exposition ran for 100 days, featured 6,000 exhibits, and attracted 800,000 visitors. After two unsuccessful attempts by the park’s owners to sell the park to the City of Atlanta, Atlanta finally purchased Piedmont Park on June 15, 1904. The park continued to develop throughout the 20th century. https://piedmontpark.org/maps/?location=13#map
In 1989, a small group of concerned citizens and civic leaders joined together to form Piedmont Park Conservancy, a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of Piedmont Park. In 1992, The Conservancy established a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Atlanta, making official the public–private partnership and mutual goals to rehabilitate and maintain Piedmont Park. https://piedmontpark.org/park-history/

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
