Description
This scene features Vickery Creek at dusk as it runs through Old Mill Park in Roswell, Georgia. The flowing water captures the subtle glow of lights of the mill and surrounding buildings as it glides over the rocks that form the creek bed. The ruins of two textile mills of the Roswell Manufacturing Company are located in the Old Mill Park. With construction of the mills completed in 1839 and 1853, the Vickery Creek waterfall, just upstream, supported the mills as they supplied a variety of products for the growing town of Roswell. Destroyed by the Union Army during the Civil War, the mills were subsequently rebuilt and served their community until 1926 when they were destroyed by fire. The building on the far bank of the creek is part of the mill that was rebuilt in 1882.
