Description
This view of the Shocks Mill railroad bridge is enhanced by the exposed riverbed of the Susquehanna River on an early summer morning. This historic bridge carries tracks of the Norfolk Southern Railroad across the Susquehanna River between Marietta, Pennsylvania and Wago Junction, Pennsylvania.
The Shockâs Mill Bridge was part of the Atglen & Susquehanna (later known as the Enola low-grade) Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad Originally which opened for freight traffic in 1906. Originally a 28-arch stone bridge, the bridge was damaged by flooding caused by Hurricane Agnes in July 1972. Damaged portions of the bridge were repaired with steel and concrete construction giving it a unique appearance.
