Artist's Description
This photo was taken as the sun was coming up along the western bank of the Susquehanna River in York County, PA. This part of the river is dotted with boulders and small islands which are uncovered for much of the season, as the river is controlled by the Holtwood Dam, located just upstream of this location. Also upstream is the Norman Wood Bridge which connects Lancaster and York Counties in South Central Pennsylvania. This area of the Susquehanna Greenway is accessible via the Mason Dixon Trail which offers access to the massive slate formations, dramatic reflective pools and abundant wildlife along the exposed riverbed.
The Mason-Dixon Trail connects the Appalachian Trail with the Brandywine Trail. This 200 mile long trail starts at Whiskey Springs in Cumberland County, PA and at Chadds Ford, PA on the banks of the Brandywine River. Approximately 45 miles of the trail runs along the Susquehanna river between the Wrightsville Bridge in York County, PA and Havre de Grace...
About Anthony Hightower
I am a native Texan, living in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country with a love for the West Texas desert, the rolling hills of Central PA, and everything in between. A childhood love of picture taking grew into a passion for photography during my years serving on a submarine, where photos were my windows to the outside world. Now, my pictures allow me to share the world as I see it (in my own, often peculiar, way) with the many wonderful friends that I have collected throughout my travels. I hope that you enjoy what you see!
